A howler from goalkeeper Adam Collin cost Rotherham United victory against Blackpool.
The home were leading 1-0 at AESSEAL New York Stadium against the Championship’s bottom club through Jordan Bowery when a long ball headed harmlessly towards the Millers keeper.
But he completely missed his kick, leaving Steve Davies to shoot into an empty net.
It was cruel luck for Rotherham who had battled hard to get in front and had their reward in the 78th minute when substitute Bowery fired low into the left-hand corner of the Seasiders’ net.
They almost snatched a winner in time added on but Scott Wootton’s header from a Ben Pringle corner was brilliantly saved by Joe Lewis.
With four new loan signings in the Millers side showing up well, there was plenty of optimism early on.
After just three minutes Matt Derbyshire somehow failed to connect as Emmanuel Ledesma’s shot-cum-cross fizzed across an open goal, Ledesma was thwarted just after and after 16 minutes a beautiful little run and shot from Tom Lawrence brought as flying save from Joe Lewis.
But Collin’s gaffe meant the mood at the end was very different.
