Defemder Aidy White is quietly confident Barnsley can grow from strength-to-strength in the Championship next season.

Left-back White is just one of two players to have signed new deals at Oakwell this summer, with star winger Adam Hammill having also accepted a new contract.

Defenders George Williams and George Smith – both full-backs – were offered contracts to stay, but both deals were pulled and the players have since left the club.

White joined the Reds mid-way through last season after he was released by Rotherham United.

And now with a new one-year contract safely signed, White is looking ahead to life in the English second tier.

“Barnsley is a brilliant club and we’ve achieved so much in the time I’ve been here,” said White.

“I always wanted to stay here, I was always going to make it my first option.

“The fans have been amazing with me and the team, it just goes to show what they can do when they get behind us.

“We’ve had two Wembley trips and a fantastic season, it’s been really special.

“But hopefully we can stay in the Championship next year and build from there.”

White played 29 times for the Reds last season and struck up a strong partnership with Hammill on the left flank.

“It’s great playing here because I’m an attacking full back and the team is geared around going forward,” added White.

“We want to create chances but at the same time be solid at the back, so it’s about picking the right times to break forward.

“And for me it’s great that Adam has signed as well, so hopefully we can team up on that left-hand side of the pitch.

“I think at times last season we showed what we can do.

“Sometimes you’ve just to give Adam the ball and let him do his thing – and then there’s other times when I can get forward myself.

“I think the style of play we have really suits me. I’m determined to be successful and I’m sure it will be a great season for both me and the club.”

Meanwhile, the Reds have confirmed their most high-profile pre-season fixture will take place on Saturday July 23.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side will host Premier League Everton at Oakwell, one of only two home pre-season fixtures.

The Reds are due to play nine pre-season matches in total, with seven away.
