Eager to learn: A coaching session with Jason Price and former Rovers boss Dave Penney

FORMER Doncaster Rovers’ favourite Jason Price was back at the Keepmoat Stadium last week.

The veteran striker, currently without a club, was helping out former boss Dave Penney at his football academy based at the Keepmoat Stadium complex which operates every Wednesday evening evening from 6-8pm.

Price helped coach the youngsters in the two age-group sessions and proved a big hit.

“He won’t be there every week but possibly once a month,” said Penney.

“I’ve been trying to freshen it up every week by bringing in different coaches with different ideas.

“I’ve also had former Rovers defender Jamie Price and Andy Holdsworth, who played for me at Oldham.

“Obviously Jason proved a popular choice last week. He was a very popular player during his time with Rovers so it was nice for the kids and their parents to see him come back to the town and do a bit of coaching. Like the other two lads I brought in, Jamie is a Level Two coach and he’s going for the next level and working here helps him get some coaching hours under his belt as well as giving him some practical experience.

“Jason has got the personality to do well as a coach and can relate to kids of the age attending the course. He’s got kids of the same age-group which helps.

“It’s different coaching older players but he’ll learn that as he goes on.”

The facilities at the Keepmoat Stadium complex, and the quality coaching, has seen numbers increase each week since the academy kicked off and there were over 40 on the two sessions last week.

The academy is open to youngsters of all ability and costs £4 per session.

The 6-7pm session is for 5-8 year olds and the 7-8pm for 9-12 year olds.
