Parkgate’s performance matched the miserable weather last weekend as they crashed to a 4-0 home defeat against Pickering Town.
The Steelmen were up against it from the beginning, as Pickering’s Lewis Taylor beat the Parkgate defence and rattled the crossbar as early as the seventh minute.
Parkgate held out until the half hour mark before eventually falling behind.
Robbie Hawkes again beat the Parkgate defence and crossed the ball into the six yard area, only for defender Reece Wesley to turn the ball into his own net.
Pickering doubled their lead with a controversial goal six minutes later, when Joe Danby clearly handled just outside the box.
Danby then crossed for Josh Greening, who tapped home from six yards out.
In the second half, Parkgate put up a narrowly improved showing - with Tom Foltyn-Brown heading over the top just two minutes after the restart - but it still wasn’t enough.
They did look like reducing the defecit on 65 minutes, when skipper Scott Lowe curled a free-kick which looked destined for the top corner.
An equally impressive save from Dave Bramley, however, kept Pickering’s two-goal advantage intact.
They extended their lead to three when Tom Adams netted a simple tap in, and with a minute left it was four when Josh Greening volleyed through the gaping hole in the Parkgate defence.
