AS most teams returned to pre-season training this week, I though it might be the right time to look ahead to the new domestic football season.
I begin with Doncaster Rovers who will be Brighton and Hove Albion’s first ever competitive opponents at the new Falmer Stadium.
And Brighton are major favourites to open their new home in winning style, we’ve got them at 17/20 at victorchandler.com. Rovers are 16/5 to spoil the party and the draw is 9/4.
We have a correct score market and at this stage I really like the look of a 1-1 draw at 6/1.
Championship newcomers Brighton are 2/1 to be in front at half time and full time while for a draw at the break and a Rovers win at full time, we’re offering 7/1.
Rovers are favourites to be relegated and we’re offering just 11/8 that they’ll be heading to League One. Sorry Doncaster fans.
The doom and gloom mood also translates to our special on which Championship manager will be the first to leave his post. Rovers boss Sean O’Driscoll is 7-1, behind Nigel Pearson and Steve Cotterill, both at 6/1.
New Barnsley boss Keith Hill is 16/1 though we’re tipping them to get off to a losing start next month.
The Reds make the short trip down the M1 to Nottingham Forest on the opening day and we have Steve McClaren’s side at 8/13 for the win.
Barnsley are priced at 9/2 for an opening day win while the draw is 5/2.
The outlook is much more positive for Rotherham United who are 6/5 to take all three points from their opening game of the campaign against Oxford United at Don Valley.
Oxford are 2/1 for the win with a draw at 12/5.
Value looks to be present in the scoreline betting with the Millers at 7/1 to triumph 1-0 or 19/2 for a 2-0 victory.
