Rotherham United, whose 16-match unbeaten run ended in a 1-0 Yorkshire derby defeat against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Tuesday, were unable to get back to winning ways in another Yorkshire derby tonight when they were held to a goalless draw by Bradford City at the New York Stadium.
The visitors’ Kyle Bennett had the first shot, but his left-footed effort from outside the box sailed over.
Both keepers had to make saves with just after 10 minutes gone but the efforts by City’s Jon Stead and the Millers’ Alex Revell were comfortably stopped.
The game burst into life in the 26th minute with three near misses in quick succession.
The home side’s Ben Pringle had a left-footed shot saved by McLaughlin in the top left corner before team mate Alex Revell’s effort from the centre of the box went wide.
At the other end Gary Jones’ shot from outside the box was stopped in the top right corner by Collin.
Kieran Agard went close for Rotherham and just before the break Bradford’s Adam Drury received a yellow card but the half ended goalless.
Rotherham came close to taking the lead just after half time when Michael O’Connor hit the post with shot from outside the box.
Then another long-range shot, by Richard Smallwood, went wide as the Millers pressed.
Adam Reach and Ben Pringle went close at either end before Rotherham took off Nicky Adams to be replaced by Haris Vuckic.
As the Millers pressed James Tavernier’s shot from the right side of the box was saved by McLaughlin and at the other end former Blade Jon Stead headed wide.
Another subtitution followed with City putting on Raffaele De Vita for Matthew Dolan.
Rotherham pressed for a winner near the end with ames Tavernier having a shot blocked and Kári Arnason heading over, but there was to be no late show this time as the match ended goalless.
