Super striker Sam Winnall notched his sixth goal in four games as Barnsley beat Colchester 3-2 at Oakwell tonight.
Winnall’s opener sent the Reds on their way to their third straight league and cup win, when he drilled home past 12 yards for his ninth of the season.
But the visitors, on a decent run of their own, hit back when Sanchez Watt squeezed home.
Peter Ramage’s goal was disallowed for offside and, at the other end, Ross Turnbull was forced to produce an acrobatic save to keep out Freddie Sears’ piledriver.
But it didn’t take the Reds long to regain the initiative and they went ahead again when Devante Cole won a penalty, which was dispatched by Connor Hourihane.
The Reds went on to make it 3-1 after 70 minutes when the hugely impressive Hourihane turned provider, his floated corner-kick thumped home by centre-back Ramage.
The Oakwell faithful rejoiced wildly, but the U’s were right back in it four minutes later when Sears lashed home from 15 yards to reduce the arrears.
But Barnsley held on to move 11th in the table.
