FRICKLEY came through their last pre-season friendly fluently, being in control for long periods in this victory over Wakefield at Ossett.

Jack Watts held the ball up well on the right before finding Danny Walsh whose pinpoint cross was headed in at the far post by Mark Whitehouse to give Frickley an eighth-minute advantage.

Although Lincoln Adams limped off after 20 minutes, causing a reshuffle in the Athletic cover, they continued to command, Ashley Longstaff having an effort well held by goalkeeper Jan Zola on the half hour.

Manager Peter Rinkcavage made six changes at the interval, but Frickley still threatened, Bradley Grayson beating the off-side trap in the 58th minute and going close with an angled shot.

Leon Henry improved the lead in the 69th minute, bursting down the left and cutting inside to drill a drive just inside the far post, and Grayson showed his pace and skill to round the keeper and slot in an acute angled shot after 77 minutes.

There was a consolation for Wakefield in the final minute, Paddy Maguire forcing the ball in from close range after a cleft sided corner kick.

Frickley begin their Evo-Stik Premier Division programme this Saturday by entertaining Burscough at the Tech5 Stadium, South Elmsall, kick-off 3pm, and they travel to Chorley next Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm.
