Frickley lack the Steel needed to take three points

Stocksbridge Park Steels 4 Frickley Athletic 3

Frickley threw away a match winning position with some suicidal defending which saw them come away from Bracken Moor with a 4-3 defeat.

Both sides had early chances - Steels’ Tomy Agus lashing an angled drive across the face of goal, and Frickley’s Gavin Allott being denied by Richard Haigh.

But it was Steels who went ahead after 14 minutes, when the Blues’ defence failed to deal with a Steels corner and Brett Bowden-Lovell steered the ball in.

The Blues responded eleven minutes when later when Callum Howe powered a header into the back of the net from Luke Jeffs’ corner.

Jason Yates had an angled drive pushed away for a corner by Ben Scott, before the home side re-took the lead on 37 minutes when former Blues’ player Danny South was left on his own at the back post to head in a free-kick.

With the introduction of James Burgess for Jason Yates at half time, the Blues looked a more dangerous side in the second half and were level just before the hour mark.

Burgess was brought down in the box and Allott stepped up to score.

And two minutes later, they were in the lead when Luke Hinsley’s shot hit Bowden-Lovell on the line and went in.

Their good work was undone on 72 minutes, however, when Joynes was unmarked and headed home.

And in stoppage time, Nathan Forbes-Swindells completed the comeback with a shot from 15 yards.

Blues’ striker Allott has been selected in the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division Team of the Year.
