He can talk the talk but can he walk the walk?
Free Press and Star sports writer Paul Goodwin is more accustomed to reporting on matches at the Keepmoat Stadium.
But next month our man will swap the press box for the pitch by getting his boots on for the 2015 Doncaster Business Cup - helping to raise money for five local charities.
Goodwin will be part of the Team Van Steen squad - captained by Alexander Van Steen of Axita Limited - for the annual charity football fundraiser on Saturday, July 18.
He has been training with his new teammates at Rovers’ Cantley Park complex for the last month.
“I’ve really enjoyed the whole experience so far,” said Paul.
“The intensity of the training has been a bit of a shock to the system but I’m loving every minute of it.
“I’d be lying if I said the nerves weren’t kicking in a bit already,” he added.
“I’m a lot more comfortable writing about football these days so the boot will be very much on the other foot come July 18. Hopefully I can get through it without disgracing myself.
“Whatever happens the five charities will be the big winners and it’s nice to play a small part in trying to help them.”
Money raised from this year’s Business Cup will be donated to Firefly, Aurora, Bluebell Wood, Club Doncaster Foundation and North Ridge Community School.
