Steve Adams made a winning start to his career as Parkgate manager as the Steelmen beat Nostell Miners Welfare 1-0.

Adams, who succeeded Russ Eagle at the Parkgate helm, handed debuts to every single player after a mass summer exodus, but his side made much of the early running and could have taken the lead in the fourth minute, but Oliver Graham’s header went over the bar.

Scott Ellis and Scott Whittington also went close, before Graham finally broke the deadlock ten minutes before half time with a stunning finish into the top left hand corner of the net.

The second half saw some good passing football from both sides, but neither could fashion a clear-cut scoring chance.

Parkgate could have wrapped the game up three minutes from time, but Scott Preece skied his shot after a good run from fellow substitute George Morley.
