Former Maltby Main manager Steve Adams admits he can’t wait to get started after beating off a host of competition to land the Parkgate job.

Adams, who began his footballing journey in 1968, was selected for the Parkgate position because of his ability and his experience.

The NCEL Premier Division side received 17 applications for the vacant managerial job, following Russ Eagle’s decision to join Worksop Parramore.

“Some very good candidates had to be rejected,” Parkgate secretary Bruce Bickerdike said.

“We made a shortlist of three to interview, and all performed strongly and had much to offer.

“In the end, Steve was selected because of his past experience and ability.”

Adams’ football career began back in 1968, and his first managerial role came with the youth team at Stocksbridge Park Steels in 2001.

He accepted an invitation to take charge of Maltby Main in 2008, and had a spell at Winterton Rangers last year.

“I would like to thank the Parkgate committee for giving me the opportunity to manage here,” Adams said.

“My first task is to appoint an assistant manager, before I begin to look at shaping my new background team.

“But I am very much looking forward to the challenges that this job will bring.”
