ROVERS have signed James Harper in time for the midfielder to make his debut at Walsall tomorrow.

The 31-year-old has penned a one-year deal at the Keepmoat Stadium and goes straight into the squad for the trip to the Bescot Stadium.

Dean Saunders began preliminary talks with Harper in May and the two parties finally reached an agreement this week as Rovers stepped up their search for a replacement for Brian Stock.

The former Reading and Sheffield United plamymaker will provide much-needed experience and competition for places in the middle of the park.

Harper was released by Hull City in the summer and is thought to have agreed to a considerable drop in wages from his time at the KC Stadium to join Doncaster.

He played in a deep-lying midfield role during a run-out for Rovers against Barnsley in pre-season and will compete with Paul Keegan for that same role at Walsall.
