Doncaster Rovers: The only way is up, insists captain Rob

ROB Jones insists Rovers are only looking in one direction despite their recent slip-up.

The skipper will lead the side out tonight at Crawley, looking for their first win in four matches.

Although the chasing pack have closed in on the top two, Jones says Rovers are refusing to look any way but up.

“We are in the driving seat,” he said.

“For us now, it’s not about looking over our shoulder, it’s about looking forward.

“We need to go on and win as many games as possible and not worry about what anyone else is doing.”

The player-coach the focus has increased on completing the job of promotion after feeling the season has entered the business end.

He said: “We’re in the final third of the season and for me, that’s the business end.

“There are an awful lot of points at stake between now and the end of the season.

“We don’t want to be getting to ten games left and be worrying about our position any more than we already are.

“The season disappears so quickly after Christmas and you’re just left wondering where it’s all gone.

“How is it the middle of February already.

“There’s an increased focus now on the job in hand.

“We need to work as hard as possible in these last 16 games to get to where we want to be.

“If you go on a great run now, you can disappear really fast.

“And if you go on a bad run, you can also disappear out of the picture really fast.

“We just have to keep going and grinding out results.

“If we do that then we’ll have no regrets.”

Jones is expecting a tough clash with Crawley in tonight’s televised clash.

But he wants Rovers to outline their promotion credentials to the Sky audience.

“It’s up to us to go and show what we’re all about,” he said.

“We can send a message that we’re not going to be moved from the automatic places.

“We’ll be in for a tough game at Crawley.

“They came up to us, put in a very good display and scored a late goal in a game that had 0-0 written all over it.

“They’re fighting for points to get back in the play off picture but we’re fighting for points as well.

“No one is guaranteed anything in this division as we’ve learned to our peril recently.

“We’ve got to be ready for this game and hopefully we’ll get what we need from it.”
