DONCASTER Rovers striker Billy Paynter will need no introduction to home fans in tomorrow’s League One clash against Swindon Town at the County Ground.

Paynter scored 29 goals for the club, who missed out on promotion to the Championship in the League One play-offs, in the 2009-10 season.

He then turned down the offer of a new deal to join Leeds United on a two-year contract which didn’t turn as well as he had hoped.

But he’s got his career back on track since joining Rovers during the summer.

Rovers will face a Swindon side which Italian manager Paolo Di Canio hopes will have benefited from a fortnight’s rest by virtue of an FA Cup first round defeat against Macclesfeld Town.

The result was all the more surprising considering the fact that they had beaten Brighton, Stoke and Burnley in the the Capital One Cup before bowing out at the fourth round stage against Premier League Aston Villa.

The Robins go into tomorrow’s game having lost their last two league games and Di Canio will be keen to check the club’s slide.

The colourful Italian took over the Robins last season and despite losing seven of his first 13 games in charge, steered the club to the League Two title.

They had become the first club to have played in the Premier League to play in the the bottom rung of the Football League when they were relegated from League One.

Former England boss Glen Hoddle steered the Robins into the top flight in the early 90s, but moved to take over at Chelsea during the summer and his No 2 John Gorman took charge. Bu they were relegated after picking up just five wins and conceding more than 100 goals.

They started this season as one of the fancied teams in the League One promotion betting.
