CAPTAIN and caretaker boss Rob Jones is doing his talking on and off the pitch since taking temporary charge of Doncaster Rovers.
But the ever-popular 33-year-old, who was even trending on Twitter at the weekend, is also talking down his chances of landing the job on a full time basis.
Jones marked his first game as joint interim manager, alongside Brian Flynn, with a dramatic late winner at Stevenage on Saturday.
The imposing defender has since given The Star an insight into his new additional responsibilities.
“I’m doing the team talks,” Jones said.
“I love it. Football’s my life and it’s all I want to do.
“The last week, and the way things went at Stevenage, has been an experience I’ll never forget.
“I led it and it’s been good for me. I enjoyed it but we move onto the next one now.
“If we want to get to where we want to be, we have to play like that week in, week out.”
Jones was initially thought to be assisting Flynn but the skipper’s role would appear to be a lot more hands-on than first reported.
The former Sheffield Wednesday stopper, however, is not even considering the prospect of remaining in charge in the long term.
“I have my input in training but I also need to train and prepare physically for games,” he said.
“It’s good to have Brian and Lee Butler with me who are both vastly experienced.
“I’ve promoted Ben Rome from masseur to my fitness guy. The boys know him. Continuity is the key really.
“Everybody knows everybody else, it’s not new faces or new ways of doing things. We just keep rolling on.
“I’ve not allowed myself to think about that [doing the job longer term],” he added.
“I’m under instruction from my chairman and I do what he tells me to. It’s as simple as that.
“My chairman’s given me a great opportunity and it’s one that I’m loving.
“It’s out of my hands, it’s nothing to do with me.
“I’m absolutely loving it but let’s just see what this week brings.”
