DONCASTER ROVERS: Iain Hume set to stay longer

DONCASTER Rovers loan striker Iain Hume is set to stay on and help boost the League One club’s promotion push.
“It’s not been finalised yet, though it has been agreed in principle,” said Rovers boss Dean Saunders.
“He’s got another year left on his contract at Preston and we can’t pay him what he’s getting there. But we’ve got him now until the end of the season and we’ll see what happens from there.
“As was the case when we played them at home, Iain won’t be available for Saturday’s game at Preston.”
Having also being given the go-ahead to sign midfielder Sammy Clingan and defender Andy Griffin by the major shareholders last Thursday afternoon, Saunders is due to speak to both men today.
Former Nottingham Forest and Coventry star Clingan, has only started the odd game after joining the club on a short-term contract.
Griffin has been playing for just expenses and appearance money since being thrown a lifeline by Saunders in mid-October after finding himself out in the cold following his release by Reading at the end of last season.
“Andy’s done well when he’s come in and we’ve won a few games when he’s played,” said Saunders.
Although he is starting to have a few niggles now because he didn’t have a pre-season, I’ll probably offer him a contract until the end of the season if we can agree terms,”
Saunders is looking to add ‘several’ other players to his squad in next month’s transfer window after being given extra financial backing.
“I know the positions that I want to strengthen and I’ve a list of players that I’m interested in,” he told The Star.
“I’ll start at the top and keep on going down it until I finally get someone who is willing to come here and who fits the bill.
“It is not just about their football ability; they’ve also got to have the right work ethic and the right character to be able to fit in. We’ve got a tremendous team-spirit at the club and it’s very important that we don’t lose that.
Saunders hinted that he may have to lose the odd player in order to facilitate the arrival of new recruits.
Former Chelsea starlet Michael Woods, who had been training with the club for two months hoping to win himself a deal, has already departed.
Former Leeds United junior Woods, who cost the Blues in excess of £1m as a teenager, suffered two serious leg injuries at Chelsea and is still looking to rebuild his career.
He was a regular on the bench when Rovers were badly depleted, but only made two appearances in the closing stages of two FA Cup games.
