Doncaster Rovers hope to put paid to Latics’ mini revival

THE two teams, who meet in a re-arranged League One game at the Keepmoat Stadium tonight, are sheduled to clash three times in the next month and it could be four if Saturday’s FA Cup second round tie at Boundary Park ends in a draw as did their last meeting in the competition at the same ground four years ago.
Leading scorer Jose Baxter, who joined the club on a short-term contract that the club will be looking to extend in September after coming up through the ranks at Everton, and Cristian Montano are recalled to Latics’ after both being suspended in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Shrewsbury
But injured pair Robbie Simpson and James Tarkowski will both sit out tonight’s match.
Simpson is recovering well from the groin injury which he has rested for the last week and according to Latics’ boss Paul Dickov he could be ready for Saturday’s FA Cup tie.
Dickov revealed that Simpson had soldiered on for some weeks with the problem but had been reluctant to sit out games as he was keeping captain Dean Furman out of the side.
Centre-back Tarkowski, who has had a history of foot problems since joining Latics, had been complaining of discomfort and the decision has been taken that the injury needs rest.
Saturday’s victory was the Latics second successive after a run of four defeats had seen them plummet down the table towards the relegation zone and manager Paul Dickov will be hoping that his charges, who picked up ten points in four games last month, can upset the odds tonight and claim a third successive win for the first time this season.
Dickov was appointed Oldham’s player-manager prior to the start of the 2010-11 campaign. It was the Scot’s first excursion into management after an illustrious playing career with Arsenal, two spells at Manchester City and Leicester City, Blackburn Rovers and Leeds United.
During his time at Ewood Park, the former Scottish international worked under Doncaster boss Dean Saunders, who was coaching at the club during his time at the Lancashire club.
He hung up his boots last year.
