DONCASTER ROVERS: Caretaker duo’s sights on away milestone

Ex-Wales boss: Brian Flynn

Ex-Wales boss: Brian Flynn

DONCASTER Rovers begin life without Dean Saunders today when Brian Flynn and Rob Jones take charge of their first training session.

The pair - recommended to take temporary charge by Saunders - are expected to be responsible for team affairs for Saturday’s potentially record-breaking League One trip to Stevenage.

Former Wales caretaker boss Flynn, who had two spells as a player at Doncaster in the 1980s, will take the lead.

But captain Jones - dubbed ‘Corporal Jones’ by supporters - will be a more than able assistant during the interim period.

Outgoing boss Saunders told The Star: “The chairman asked me for my input and the boys respect Rob. He’s a leader and he doesn’t take any messing around.

“Brian Flynn is an experienced man who can help Rob.

“They’ll both carry on what we’ve been doing. All the players know why we’re winning games and it’s up to them to take that forward now.

“They’ll be in safe hands with those two.”

Rovers can break their club record sequence of matches unbeaten away from home on Saturday if they avoid defeat at Stevenage.

They levelled their current record, 11, with victory at Preston last month.
