Tommy Spurr has completed his signing for Blackburn Rovers on a two year deal.

The left back was long expected to re-sign for Doncaster after being offered a new deal on the expiration of his two year contract at the Keepmoat.

But the 25-year-old former Sheffield Wednesday defender has instead opted to join Blackburn.

Rovers boss Paul Dickov said: “We’re disappointed to lose him.

“But Tommy is a great lad and he goes with everyone’s best wishes.”

Spurr was an ever-present for Rovers last term in the League One championship winning campaign.

He made 75 appearances for Rovers after his move from the Owls in 2011.

Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer was pleased with the deal.

He said: “First and foremost, we are delighted that Tommy has agreed to join us, as there were several clubs chasing his signature.

“We have done our homework. He is a good lad and he will add extra height and energy to our back line.

“He has had a good upbringing in terms of where he learned his trade, in the Championship and League One, so he knows the demands of what is required at this level.

“He played every game for Doncaster last season and that mentality, of winning football matches and winning promotion, is something we are trying to get more of into our dressing room.”
