Doncaster Rovers: More of the same, orders Flynn

AS far as team talks go, Brian Flynn’s message to his players tomorrow will be as straightforward as they come: ‘carry on where you left off’.

Flynn was delighted with his team’s all-round performance on Easter Monday as they bounced back from defeat at Coventry to beat Swindon and dent the Robins’ automatic promotion hopes in the process.

After eight of Doncaster’s 12 defeats in all competitions this season Rovers have responded immediately with a win.

Now Flynn wants his table-topping side to channel that sort of character into the club’s final five games of a fascinating season.

A home double against stuttering Tranmere Rovers and then Carlisle next Tuesday presents Doncaster with a great opportunity to take a giant leap towards the Championship.

However, Rovers’ boss is refusing to look beyond the visit of Tranmere.

“The next game is the most important one for us,” said Flynn.

“We knew this week was always going to be a big week for us. We didn’t start brightly at Coventry but we made amends in the second half.

“And we were good from start to finish against Swindon.

“We were really at it and we have to continue that against Tranmere.

“Tranmere have had a good season,” he added.

“Until the last five or six games they’ve been right up there.

“Unfortunately for them they’ve had injuries to some key players at the wrong time.

“We can’t concern ourselves about Tranmere.

“We’ll respect them, but if we play the same way as we did on Monday I’ll be more than happy.”

Promotion rivals Brentford and Sheffield United both face tricky away trips this weekend, against Coventry and Walsall respectively.

But Flynn is not interested in other teams.

He said: “I’ve not studied the other fixtures. I know that Brentford have to play Sheffield United, that’s all I know.

“But it’s what we do that matters most. That’s a very simple message I know but it’s the best one.”
