DONCASTER Rovers defender George Friend is proving his talents aren’t limited to the football pitch – he’s starting a university degree.
George, aged 24, will juggle his football commitments with a part-time Sports Journalism and Broadcasting course at the University of Stafford, starting in the summer.
Education has always been important to George, who chose to stay on at school and take his A-levels instead of signing a professional contract at the age of 16.
He said: “I’ve always wanted a degree.
“The course is geared for professional athletes to get a full baccalaureate degree, so it’s a good opportunity for me in my position as a footballer and it’s something I’m interested in.
“Everyone’s got an opinion on something and if you’ve ever talked to me you’ll realise that I have views on all sorts of things.”
