BRIAN Flynn has made initial plans for next season – despite not yet knowing whether he will still be the Rovers boss.

Keen not to waste any time should Rovers earn promotion to the Championship, Flynn is looking to lay foundations to ensure the club remains in the second tier.

But he may not be in charge to see his plans come to fruition, as his short term deal expires at the end of the current campaign.

Nevertheless, he has already presented his ideas to the Rovers board.

“I have got my plans in place for next season in terms of how we are going to build the structure of the club, in terms of players,” Flynn said.

“The board have readily accepted what I have given them and come the end of the season I will tell you exactly what is happening.

“We’re planning for the Championship; that’s the only place to be looking with the position we are in at the moment.

“Calls have all ready been put in and things are set up ready to go.

“Your contact book is a major asset to have, and I’ve got that through many years of managing.

“You don’t get favours in football but there are preferences where managers will allow players to go.”

Rovers are set to travel to relegation-threatened Scunthorpe United today.

No pitch inspection was planned at Glanford Park last night despite yesterday’s wintery weather.

Flynn is looking forward to renewing acquaintances with Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws, who he played alongside at Burnley.

But he is keen to ensure Laws ends tomorrow empty handed.

Flynn said: “I know Brian really well. He was at Burnley at the same time as I was and he took my digs when I left them and got married.

“We go back a long way.

“He’s had a very successful playing and managerial career, I hope they do well and stay up.

“But just not on Saturday.”

Flynn was waiting on the fitness of Everton loanee John Lundstram who suffered an ankle injury against Portsmouth last weekend at the Keepmoat Stadium..
