He has returned from foot trouble to trouble with his feet again and now James Coppinger has been hailed for a ‘division best’ performance by boss Paul Dickov .

Coppinger has arguably Rovers’ top performer in the two games since his return from injury.

And Dickov believes there are few in the Championship who can match the 33-year-old when he is at his best.

“He’s come back buzzing and he’s come back flying,” Dickov said.

“James Coppinger playing how he did against Wigan on Saturday is as good as any in this league.

“I thought he was outstanding and he was probably our best player against Blackburn the previous week.”

Before returning at Blackburn, Coppinger spent almost a month on the sidelines.

Dickov revealed the midfielder was ordered to rest up to ensure he fully recovered.

He said: “James has been suffering with his feet a little bit.

“He missed the Christmas period. We felt it was important to give him that time off – and not just because it was Christmas.

“He needed the rest and you can see it’s done him good.”

Coppinger has been widely credited with Rovers’ second goal in the 3-0 triumph over Wigan last weekend though debate continues between him at Richie Wellens over who got the final touch.
