Gordon Staniforth is aiming to bolster his squad ahead of the FAWSL2 season with the signings of Reanne Thomas and Shannon McCarney, the Free Press understands.

The newly-appointed Belles boss has been keen to add to his side and his number one priority was to sign a goalkeeper.

It is understood young shot-stopper Shannon McCarney has agreed to join the Belles from Leeds United Ladies.

McCarney is a player Staniforth knows a lot about during her academy development.

She will be fighting for a first team spot alongside Belles junior Megan Govier and the club’s current number one Nic Hobbs.

Irish goalkeeper Emma Higgins has left the club and returned to her home nation.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Thomas has been training with the Belles and is also expected to sign.

A friendly between WSL current champions Liverpool LFC and Doncaster has been announced.

The match will take place at the Select Security Stadium on Saturday. 6.30pm kick-off.

Staniforth’s daughter Lucy, who recently signed for the Reds, is expected to play some part following a lengthy time on the sidelines last year due to a knee injury.
