Gordon Staniforth admits the 4-1 victory over Millwall Lionesses was not his side’s best performance.

However, the Belles chief was pleased to see more goals shared around his squad as top goalscorer Beth England added her 11th and 12th strikes of the season alongside Courtney Sweetman-Kirk’s opener and Reanne Thomas’s injury-time fourth against the Lionesses.

Millwall did give the Belles a scare when Cherelle Albert levelled proceedings in the first half, following Sweetman-Kirk’s 11th minute strike.

But overall, Doncaster were largely in control as they recorded their tenth win of the FAWSL2 season to keep the pressure on table-topping promotion hopefuls Sunderland Ladies.

“I thought we started really well first half and then we lost our way a bit,” said Staniforth.

“I said to the girls afterwards that that wasn’t our best performance by a million miles but we’ll always continue to create chances and we’ll always score goals.

“For me, that’s a great thing to have in your locker.

“We’re sharing it around in terms of the goalscorers, Reanne [Thomas] has come on and scored again.”

The Belles face another break from league football before the potential ‘title-decider’ with Sunderland, which kicks off on October 4.
