Doncaster Rovers Belles manager John Buckley is on the hunt for a striker after the club announced the arrival of five new players.

The Women’s Super League’s two-month break may have been one the Belles would like to forget having had their FA appeal against relegation dismissed in June.

But it’s has been business as usual on the field as the Belles welcomed 15-month deals for five players, subject to paperwork, and had Millie Bright, Lyndsey Cunningham and Jess Sigsworth all officially commit to the club until November 2014.

The new arrivals are Glasgow City midfielder Julie Melrose, Blackburn Rovers defensive duo Danni Cox and Rhiannon Roberts, utility player and former Belle Emma Johnson from Sheffield FC and left-back Lauren Cresswell from FAWSL neighbours Lincoln Ladies.

The Belles restart their league campaign against Chelsea on Sunday and Buckley is keen to bolster his striking ranks - particularly when forward Sigsworth heads out to the European Championships with England’s under-19s later this month.

“I would like to sign another striker but can’t say anything more just yet,” he said.

“We want to bring more players in. The desire is there to play for our club and competition for places is better than ever.”

Belles midfielder Emma Thomson is returning to America to continue her coaching and studies, the club confirmed.
