A Lori Hudson hat trick helped Doncaster Belles’ u18s on their way to a fine 5-1 victory over South Yorkshire rivals Steel City Wanderers, writes Chris Wright.

That victory sees the Belles keep the pressure on Sheffield & Hallam league leaders Barnsley.

Doncaster went ahead in the 25th minute when a perfect passage of play between Amber Warren and Hudson saw the latter spin and volley the ball over the head of City’s shot-stopper.

Hudson seized her second of the match when the ‘keeper spilled a catch before former Maltby player Gabrielle Marriott engineered her team-mate’s well-taken hat trick.

The fourth goal came on 75 minutes when Holly Housley linked up exquisitely to put Megan Gower through for 4-0.

With 10 minutes remaining, the Belles conceded a penalty and despite Shona Wright getting her hand to the spot-kick, the power evaded her grasp as Steel City reduced the deficit.

Marriott gained credit for the last goal after a City defender steered her throw-in into the net.
