The under-15s are celebrating a league and cup double following a convincing 7-1 victory over Wickersley, writes Nigel Watson.
Already confirmed Sheffield and Hallamshire County Girls Division One champions, the Belles’ under-15s faced their South Yorkshire rivals in the final of the league cup.
Doncaster arguably went into the game as favourites and made a blistering start when a neat flick from Toyah Perry and fine finish from Jess Hassall gave them a two goal lead with less than five minutes on the clock.
Wickersley, to their credit, worked hard throughout and came more into the game with the ball over the top causing the Donny defence problems for the rest of the half.
A pacy run down the wing and good cross allowed Hassall to coolly finish for her second goal before Wickersley pulled a goal back after a fine finish into the bottom corner.
In the second half, the Wickersley team tired but should be proud of their efforts, as Doncaster struck further with four quality goals giving the scoreline a convincing look.
Kirsty Nelthorpe impressed throughout and got a second half hat trick - all excellent left-foot strikes.
Defender Keelie Earle brought the ball out of defence and fired home from 30 yards to complete the scoring.
Kirsty Nelthorpe won Lass of the Grass.
The under-15s’ final game of the season is at Wombwell on Saturday.
