Doncaster Rovers Belles’ latest home game proved a historic occasion as some of the club’s earliest members came together for a matchday reunion, writes Mark Donnelly.

The ‘Class of the 70s’ - which included players such as Jan Milner and Jill Betts - joined original member and current club president Sheila Edmunds for the special reunion at the Belles’ FAWSL2 home match with Watford on Sunday.

Prior to kick-off, the VIP guests watched the Belles’ warm-up before enjoying a kickabout on the Keepmoat Stadium turf.

They then cheered on Gordon Staniforth’s table-topping side as the current crop comfortably dispatched Watford 2-0 to keep their 100 per cent league record going.

A club spokesman said: “Everyone at Doncaster Rovers Belles was humbled to have these special guests present at our game and we sincerely hope that they had an enjoyable afternoon at The Keepmoat Stadium.”

The club was formed in 1969 as the Belle Vue Belles by women selling draw tickets at Doncaster Rovers.
