Denaby go top of the table after win in nine goal thriller

DENABY United moved top of Division One after outscoring Sun Inn in a nine goal thriller at Old Road.

Ryan Oakley stretched his phenomenal scoring record to 11 goals in three games by netting four in United’s 5-4 win.

Sun Inn opened the scoring but Oakley levelled after volleying home a Jack Vickers cross two minutes later.

Oakley put United ahead on 21 minutes while Vickers got in on the act himself shortly afterward, lobbing the Sun keeper following a fine ball over the top from Mick Russon.

The second half proved an end to end affair, if somewhat scrappy.

Sun Inn pulled a goal back four minutes after the restart but Oakley completed his hat trick two minutes later from the spot after Daniel Noonan was upended.

Again Sun Inn hit back only for Oakley to re-establish the two goal cushion with nine minutes to play after beating three men and drilling home.

Sun Inn did have the final say in the dying moments but could not find an equaliser.

Nathan Lovell scored twice with Jason Astphall and Aaran Senior also on target as AFC Sportsman Rovers returned to winning ways in the Premier Division with a 4-1 win over local rivals Swinton Station Athletic.
