Doncaster Rovers’ annual Twenty20 challenge against Doncaster Town will take place later this month, it has been announced.

Rovers players and management will be at Town Field on Sunday, July 28, to attempt to repeat their surprise win last year.

The occasion is a popular one among spectators as players mingle among fans and enjoy one final Sunday of relaxation before the rigours of the new league season.

James Coppinger is expected to skipper Rovers’ side, while Tommy Spurr and Chris Brown have shown in the past that they are more than capable cricketers.

Former Bradford League wicketkeeper batsman Dave Syers will also be able to show his teammates how its done, should he be available.

Chairman John Ryan is a regular at the top of the order for Rovers, while organsiers also hope to entice Paul Dickov and Brian Horton into playing.

Gates open at noon, with the match starting at 2pm. There will be a barbecue and a music backdrop, while proceeds from an auction and raffle featuring Rovers memorabilia will boost Town’s coffers.

Entry is £1, car parking £3.
