Rotherham United have set their sights on promotion to the Championship next season, Millers chairman Tony Stewart has revealed.

In a message to Millers fans, imploring them to buy season tickets for the 2013/14 campaign after last season’s elevation to League One, Stewart said: “Rotherham United enjoyed a fantastic end to last season, and we want you to ensure that you’re part of the next one.

“With it decided that we will be playing in League One, we want you to get behind Steve Evans and his team as they look to make it two on the bounce and challenge for promotion to the Championship.”

Millers fans can watch League One football from just £20 for adults and £11 for concessions, in the New York Stadium’s North Stand.

The Millers, of course, will host South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United for the second time at their state-of-the-art home.

United won 1-0 in a pre-season friendly at the stadium just under a year ago.

Millers manager Evans, meanwhile, has been nominated for the League Two ‘Manager of the Month’ award for April.

Rotherham won five of their seven fixtures last month, to secure a second-placed finish behind champions Gillingham.

“A strong month from the Millers was required if automatic promotion was going to be secured, and Evans’ men duly delivered,” a spokesperson for league sponsors npower said.

“They will be looking forward to the challenge of playing in League One next year.”

Midfielder Michael O’Connor has also been nominated for the April ‘Player of the Month’ award.

“The Northern Irishman typified his side’s relentless drive in the final month of a season that brought promotion,” npower added.

“His prodigious work-rate was the catalyst which sparked a five-match winning run, striding forward to score in the 4-1 win over Exeter City.”

The winners are announced on Friday.
