Blades: Poleon’s delight to be with Blades
DOMINIC Poleon has outlined why he won’t be intimidated by the pressure of trying to help Sheffield United achieve promotion from League One, writes James Shield.
The teenager, signed on loan from Yorkshire rivals Leeds, made his debut for Danny Wilson’s side during last weekend’s victory over Colchester at Bramall Lane.
And Poleon, who impressed during a similar spell with relegation-threatened Bury earlier this term, insisted he was “looking forward” to the challenge ahead after goals from Barry Robson, Kevin McDonald and Dave Kitson saw United climb to second in the table.
“Wherever I’ve been, there’s been pressure so it doesn’t worry me,” Poleon said. “When I started out there was pressure, at Leeds there is pressure and there’s pressure being down the other end of the division too.
“I’ve always been in the kind of situation where you get thrown-in and you’ve got to either sink or swim so, no, it doesn’t bother me at all.
“The aim might be different. But the pressure is still there so I’m used to it.
“I’ve still got a lot to learn but I believe in my own ability so I’m looking forward to helping in any way that I can.”
Poleon, scheduled to spend the rest of the season with United, started his career at Chelsea before arriving at Elland Road from Southend.
Leeds boss Neil Warnock is a lifelong United supporter and managed them for eight years.
“When this opportunity came up I couldn’t say no,” Poleon added. “Both managers are winners and know what they want. Neil had nothing put praise for United and he told me it’s a great place to play your football with a great crowd. A really big club.”
