Belles snap up talented duo

DONCASTER Belles have made a double swoop to sign an experienced striker and a goalkeeper that fans of the football club might just recognise, writes Hayley Paterson.

Belles chief John Buckley is delighted having captured Liverpool’s forward Cheryl Foster and Lincoln Ladies’ shotstopper Nicola Hobbs - who first signed for Doncaster back in 2008 from Blackburn Rovers.

Foster (pictured) is Liverpool’s longest-serving player boasting a prolific goalscoring record for the Merseyside club she has been with for over 10 years.

With no fewer than 60 caps for Wales, Bangor-born Foster is just one of two players to achieve over 50 call-ups for her country.

With goals lacking in the Belles’ recent FA Women’s Super League campaign - which saw them net just 14 times and Leandra Little topping the club’s goal tally with three - Belles boss Buckley is more than confident 32-year-old Foster can provide them with the firepower they need to kickstart their 2013 campaign.

He said: “Cheryl is a player we as a club have spoken about for the last few seasons.

“She is an experienced international player who can certainly create and score us goals.’’

Hobbs will certainly be a familiar face around the Belles dressing room following her previous time at the club during a career that includes spells at Everton and Leeds before featuring for the Lady Imps in the last two WSL seasons.

Buckley added: “She is a very good keeper and we are delighted to bring her back to the Belles.

“We felt as a club we needed competition in key areas of the team and Nicola would rival any keeper in the league.’’
