Barnsley return to pre-season training on Monday with three new players in their squad.
But Reds’ boss Danny Wilson continues his search for new recruits with the new season just over a month away.
Wilson’s charges kick off their domestic campaign at home to Crawley Town on Saturday 9th August at Oakwell, with a Capital One Cup first round home clash with Crewe Alexandra three days later.
And Wilson has told The Star he wants to sign a few more players before the new season gets underway.
“We’re still looking at the targets we’ve identified and are hopeful we can get some bodies into the building, but we’re having to be patient,” said Wilson.
“There’s various positions we need filling with the players we’ve lost, so we’re working to fill them.”
And Wilson remains hopeful striker Chris O’Grady, the club’s leading scorer last season, will stay at Oakwell next term despite interest from a number of clubs.
However, O’Grady told the Star that only Charlton Athletic have made a formal approach for his services, one which he ultimately rejected.
“The longer it goes on and the closer we get to the start of the season, the better chance we have of keeping Chris,” said Wilson.
“I’d be delighted if Chris stayed. He’s got a year on his contract and had a great season for us last season.”
“There’s bound to be interest him because of the goals he scored, but our position gets stronger the longer things drag on.”
Meanwhile, the Reds have been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Jonathan Obika.
