Barnsley manager Danny Wilson believes his hard-working squad deserve a well-earned break this weekend.
The Reds were due to clash with South Yorkshire derby rivals Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium.
But instead the entire Reds’ squad has been given the weekend off to relax and unwind after a hectic start to the new season.
And then it’s back to business on Monday morning in preparation for next Saturday’s home clash with MK Dons.
“It will be great for all the players to get their feet up and relax for the weekend,” said Wilson. “The players will have the whole weekend off, which is a great break from their point of view.
“It comes thick and fast for players at this stage in the season. It’s not easy for these players at this level.
“You have an enormous amount of games in a short space of time and, coupled with that, there’s one or two lads who have made debuts this year and it’s like a whirlwind to them.”
Wilson’s new-look and improving side are unbeaten in their last five outings in all competitions and playing with a lot more fluidity than their defeats to Crawley Town and Crewe Alexandra in the first two games of the new League One campaign.
And Wilson is delighted his new players are settling well at Oakwell, especially new Manchester City loan signing Devante Cole. Highly-rated teenager Cole, the son of former England, Manchester United and Newcastle United striker Andy, bagged his first goal for the Reds in Tuesday night’s 2-0 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy first round win over York City.
And Wilson hopes there will be more to come from the young striker as he tries to help him “blossom” at Oakwell.
“Devante wants to play games,” added Wilson. “We’re not going to neglect him because we want him to blossom here.”
