Reds boss Danny Wilson believes that the fighting spirit showed by his side against Leeds will stand Barnsley in good stead this season.

Wilson’s first game in charge saw then gain a well-earned point at Elland Road and, ahead of a festive double header at Oakwell against Bolton and Derby, the Reds boss said: ““I can’t do anything but praise the lads.

“People were saying that we’d be lucky to come away from Elland Road with nil, but that can inspire you, particularly when it is a derby atmosphere. I thought we rose to the challenge.”

The Elland Road point was not enough to take Barnsley off the bottom of the Championship table.

Jacob Mellis is suspended for Barnsley’s Boxing Day clash with Bolton, after picking up his fifth booking of the campaign against Leeds.

Marcus Tudgay, too, is banned for the remainder of his loan spell at Oakwell.

The striker was sent off late on against Leeds, and will serve a three-game ban.
