New boy Alex Mowatt is looking to make a lasting impression on the Barnsley faithful.

The midfielder joined the club from Yorkshire rivals Leeds United in January but his debut was one to forget, as he was sent off after just 42 minutes against Wolves.

“Now I am back I am going to get out onto the pitch and show the fans what I can do,” said Mowatt, who returned with a stint off the bench against Brighton and Hove Albion last week.

“My debut started well, I was enjoying the game and I nearly scored, but then the rest, I just want to forget.

“My adrenaline was obviously high during the game and I can’t really remember what happened.

“I was disappointed with myself and the three game ban seemed like a lifetime.

“But I am back now and hopefully I can get out there and get playing.”

The 22-year-old is back in contention for today’s derby against a flying Huddersfield Town side, after his 10-minute burst last time out.

It will be Mowatt’s first taste of derby-day action in a Reds’ shirt, and he will be looking to get some bragging rights over his mates who are Terriers’ fans.

And the charismatic midfielder will be vying to get on the scoresheet against David Wagner’s side for the third time, after two glorious goals against them during his time at Leeds.

Mowatt added: “I’ve got a few mates who are Huddersfield fans so it’ll be nice to get one over on them.

“Derby games are always exciting and good games with a big atmosphere so I am really looking forward to it.

“I scored a good goal two seasons ago against them and I think my first ever goal was against them as well, so hopefully I can score another against them.”
