AN under-strength Armthorpe Welfare grabbed a late equaliser to stretch their unbeaten run to four games with a 1-1 draw at Nostell MW, writes Paul Webster.

Manager Leo Fortune-West was without defenders Steve Garner, Liam Gaughan and Josh Gibbons along with striker Jay Rollins for the Baris Northern Counties East League Premier encounter but gave a debut to new signing Dan Ferguson putting the former Askern Villa man upfront.

In a game short on clear cut chances it was the visitors that broke the deadlock on 71 minutes when Danny Critchlow nodded in a cross from almost the goal-line at the back post.

When the teams met in the reverse fixture back in August, Tom Hyde’s 89th minute goal gave Welfare a 2-1 win. And this time around it was the 89th minute again as Richard Smith connected with a header from Paul Ashton’s free-kick that saw Armthorpe salvage a deserved point.

Armthorpe will be in league cup third round action hosting Parkgate a week on Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm.

Maltby Main bounced back to winning ways following two successive defeats as they beat Liversedge 4-1 at Muglet Lane.

Mark Stuart’s neat lob gave the Miners a third minute lead which was added to nine minutes later when Brian Cusworth rifled home to put the hosts in control.

Chris Hirst fired the visitors back in the game 12 minutes after the interval.

It was not until the 84th minute that Maltby struck again when Craig Gladwin picked himself up after being hauled down in the area to restore the two goal cushion from the penalty spot.

Brian Cusworth sealed the points minutes later with a clinical finish under the keeper. Maltby next face Worksop Parramore away on Saturday.

Rossington slipped to a narrow 2-1 defeat at Knaresborough Town that saw the West Yorkshire outfit complete a league double over the men from Oxford Street.

Rossington were left down to the bare 11 because of injury and unavailability and found themselves facing an uphill struggle as Craig Heard put Town in front on 35 minutes.

Heard then doubled the home side’s lead on the stroke of half-time.

Niall Doyle reduced the deficit seven minutes after the restart to leave Knaresborough clinging to their lead.

The Colliery line-up against Hemsworth MW on Saturday.

Askern Villa slumped to a fifth defeat in six in the league as in-form Hallam romped to a 7-1 win.

The visitors, who have now stretched their unbeaten run to seven games, were soon ahead when Aaron Moxam gave them a 14th minute lead inside the box.

Villa hit back through a Leon Cusworth header from a corner.

However, a minute later Craig Getliff nodded Hallam back in front and James Cook later turned in a cross to stretch the lead.

Getliff made it 4-1 via the post as Moxam added his second before Hallam ran in two more through Adam Carter and a fine Conor Sellars solo effort.

This Saturday sees Villa travel to Worsborough Bridge Athletic before their cup game away to Hallam again this Tuesday.
