A BLISTERING scoring rate of almost two goals a game saw Simon Brailey blast his way to the South Yorkshire Times Golden Boot in the Mexborough Sunday League.

The Ivanhoe hot–shot netted 39 goals in 22 matches for the Division Two side, an average of 1.8 goals per game.

Unfortunately, it was not enough to guide Ivanhoe to glory as their title challenge faltered late on, and they now face a nervous wait to see if they have done enough to be bumped up the Mexborough League ladder.

The top scorer prize in the Premier Division switched hands in the final moments of the campaign with Westville’s Nicky Harper snatching the trophy.

Harper netted five times in Westville’s final match of the season, overtaking previous scoring leader Steve Ellor of Groves Social, to finish with 22 goals.

Mexborough Main Street’s Adam Middleton took the Division One prize with 24 goals for the season.

All three men received their trophies at the Mexborough League’s presentation night with sponsor Peter Brooks of Peter Brooks Honda handing out the prizes.

Respective divisional champions Swinton WMC, Bolton Social and Albert Road were all presented with the title trophies.
