Matt Carbutt expects the Dons to have an extra spring in their step at Bradford on Sunday following the appointment of Gary Thornton as head coach.

“We are under no illusions that it’s going to be a tough game because the Bulls are a strong side but if we go out there and give it a dig we’ll see what happens,” said Carbutt, prior to Thornton’s unveiling.

“The performance at Dewsbury, where I thought the pack in particular played well, has got to give us some confidence.

“We scored seven tries (the most Bradford have conceded in a game this season) when we played them at home in April but our defence was awful that day and we let ten in.

“We’re expecting to have a new head coach in charge and that will also help raise the team because everyone will be looking to impress.

“He has got a big job to do to keep us in the Championship but he’s got a great bunch of players to work with.

“We know we’ve probably only got an outside chance of staying up and we need to win most of our remaining games.

“I’m sure that if we carry on like we are currently playing the win will come.

“I know we’ve lost our first 15 games but we could win one and then go on a run because it’s been done before by us.”
