The Dons have been deducted three points after being found guilty of fielding an ineligible player.

General manager Carl Hall has already declared his intent to appeal the decision, based upon ‘communication with the RFL’ prior to the infringement.

The club were called before an independent operational rules tribunal last night after being charged with breaching the RFL’s rule B3.17 on dual registration players.

And the Dons have been ruled at fault for fielding Hull FC’s Ben Crooks against Keighley last month.

Crooks had played just twice prior to the Championship registration deadline when needing three appearances for the Dons to be eligible to play the rest of the season.

Hall told the club’s official website: “Whilst we do not dispute Ben played in the game, based on communications and dialogue we have had with the RFL prior to the player participating in the game we are disappointed with the outcome of the hearing and the punishment that has been provided.

“We can confirm we will be appealing the decision.”

Batley have been found guilty of the same offence and also deducted three points after Jacob Fairbank played in their win over Sheffield Eagles.
