Two, four, six, eight, now the Doncaster RLC Rockets can celebrate!
The town’s flagship cheerleading squad have claimed their first major honours with victory at last month’s prestigious Jungle Fever competition held at Bolton Arena.
And now the Rockets want to spread the cheer.
They are encouraging more youngsters to join them and also plan to launch a new adult squad.
The Rockets claimed two first place finishes and also a third place at Bolton.
Owner and coach Rachel Carter said: “The Allstar cheerleaders have been working hard over the past 11 weeks to progress from level one to level two stunt which they successfully came first in.
“The girls had a great day and I was extremely proud of the squad and their achievements.
“Cheerleading is an up-and-coming sporting activity,” she added.
“It was made famous in the USA but it’s becoming increasing popular in the UK, particularly in the south of the country and within universities.
“A competitive cheerleading routine combines a variety of different skills including dance, jumps, stunts and tumbles.
“It’s a great way to keep fit, make friends and be part of a team.”
Parent Jane Whaley added: “Seeing the smiles on the squads’ faces when their toes touch the mat makes all of the hard work worthwhile.
“It was inspiring to watch so many talented, hard working, determined young cheerleaders perform.
“I’m proud not only to be a parent of a cheerleader, but to be part of the RLC Rockets cheerleading family.”
RLC Rockets train at Sir Thomas Wharton Community College in Edlington every week.
Sessions are held on Wednesdays (6-7.30pm) for ages 9-14 years and Thursdays (5-6.30pm) for ages 4-8 years.
Senior Cheer (ages 15+ years) will start in January.
