Centre Bevon Armitage will miss Knights’ eagerly-awaited Championship clash against big-spending Bristol at Castle Park on Saturday.

Armitage’s red card after just 27 minutes of Sunday’s game at Cornish Pirates took some of the gloss off Knights’ magnificent 30-13 win.

“The second yellow card was legitimate but the first one was contentious - he came to make a tackle and the ball hit his hands,” said director of rugby Clive Griffiths.

With Andy Bulumakau already ruled out, Griffiths could look at the possibility of bringing in dual-registered Leicester centre George Catchpole.

Although Griffiths is under no illusions as to how tough Saturday’s game will be, he says his charges will not lack confidence after three back-to-back league and cup wins.

“The boys know that they aren’t a bad side and they showed that again on Sunday,” said the Welshman.

“The media have made a lot about the fact we lost nine Championship games on the trot, but mixed in with those results were seven B&I Cup wins.

“Certainly anyone doubting the heart and passion of this team should have been at the Mennaye Field.

“To go down there and beat a Pirates side which had beaten Bristol in their last home game playing with only 14 men for over 60 minutes was a great achievement. To only concede one try during that time speaks volumes.”

Griffiths was particularly pleased that victory wasn’t secured by individual brilliance but by a committed team performance.

“Everyone played well and the boys who came off the bench also did extremely well,” he enthused.
