Doncaster Knights have hit the ground running, according to Jamie Lennard.
Fly half Lennard this week became the latest player to commit himself to the Castle Park club for next season’s return to the Championship.
The Knights returned to pre-season training last Monday, little more than seven weeks after sealing the National One title on the final day of the season at Blackheath.
And Lennard says that retaining the core of Knights’ promotion-winning squad has given the club a flying start to their preparations for life in the second tier.
Lennard said: “We are back into it now and there is a really good feeling around the camp, the majority of the lads were here last season.
“Quite often the first few weeks of pre-season are quite slow as guys need to get to know each other but this year we have been able to start on the front foot.
“As a team we are under no illusions about the step up to the Championship. We have a strong bunch of players here and I know there is a lot of recruitment going on behind closed doors.
“I’m confident that by September we will exactly where we want to be and ready to compete in this division.”
The 2014/15 Championship fixtures are released at 1pm on Monday.
