Doncaster Knights captain Michael Hills has the privilege of leading his hometown club during one of the most exciting periods in their history.

Knights not only consolidated their place in the Championship last season after being promoted but also reached the B&I Cup final for the first time.

Expectations are even higher this season following the club's impressive start to their league campaign which sees them go into Saturday's home game against Moseley riding high in third place.

The club's success to date, however, has not surprised the hard-working flanker.

“Other people might be but we aren’t surprised at all where we are in the table,” said Hills.

“We worked hard in pre-season and we knew we had a team to do what we are doing at the moment. But it is about maintaining it.

“There is no point starting the season well and then dropping off.

“We want to finish in the top four and to do that we've got to continue to win games.

“It’s nice to have got some of the toughest away trips out of the way and also to have picked up points on the road because that is key to doing well in the Championship: if not winning, then picking up points in every game.

“That said, there are still some difficult away trips to come starting with the game at Bedford next Saturday.

“But all we’ve focused on this week are Moseley.

“They’ve performed well this season and we also know what they can do on their day because they’ve done it to us before.

“They were strong at the set-piece and had a good kicking game last season.

“But having watched them this year they've added more strings to their bow and are more of an all-round team.”

The Doncaster pack has stepped up to the plate this season with Hills playing his part.

“I feel that my own form has been solid but as captain I try not to focus too much on my own game and concentrate more on helping us to perform as a team.” he said.
