DONCASTER Knights ended the 2011-12 season on a losing note with a 39-10 Championship Promotion Play-Off Pool A defeat at Bristol.
“Bristol obviously deserved to win but I couldn’t have been more proud of the players,” said director of rugby Brett Davey. “They worked hard for the full 80 minutes.
“The game sort of epitomised our season really in that it was our mainly our mistakes which cost us.
“I wouldn’t mind if the tries we conceded were the result of really good play but it wasn’t. It didn’t help that the standard of refereeing was diabolical. But we are getting used to that - especially in the play-offs.
“We were 27-10 down at half-time after playing with the wind and we thought that we’d be really under the cosh in the second half but we defended well and restricted them to just two more tries.”
