Doncaster Knights went top of the embryonic Championship table after beating Jersey 31-27 at Castle Park.

Latu Makaafi came off the bench to continue his excellent start to the new season with another brace of tries.

Sam Edgerley also touched down for Doncaster, while Dougie Flockhart kicked four penalties and two conversions.

Knights’ first home win of the season followed last weekend’s excellent win at Nottingham and a narrow opening day defeat to newly-relegated London Welsh.

Doncaster lead the way on 11 points but Yorkshire Carnegie and Bristol both have the chance to leapfrog them on Sunday.
