DONCASTER Knights’ boss Brett Davey is still trying to get his head around what happened in Saturday’s Championship opener at Plymouth on the eve of tomorrow’s home game against Bristol at Castle Park.

Davey and head coach Glen Kenworthy had both expected to claim the spoils at Brickfields and a losing bonus point proved scant consolation.

“It surprised me how badly we played; it was a massive disappointment,” he said.

“The front-row played well, as did one or two others, but there were a lot of players who put in their worst performance in a Doncaster shirt and I’m talking about players who have been playing at the top of their game for several years.

“The first 40 minutes was horrific and it wasn’t what either myself or the players expected.

“You could see that there was a physical difference between the two sides on the day but we just couldn’t even do the little things well.

“We were all very despondent on the long way back but we’ve picked ourselves up in training this week.

“We’ve put it down to a bad day at the office, which happens from time to time, and you’ve just got to take it on the chin and get on with things and that’s what we’ve done this week.

“Everyone accepts that our performance wasn’t acceptable and we’ll all be looking to put things right against Bristol.”

Davey, who wasn’t revealing any team plans yesterday afternoon, admits that he has several injury doubts.

“We’ll see how they are in training.” he told The Star.
